1000 DROPS OF CONCRETE

Responsive Machinery

Gesture-Controlled Fabrication

2024

A collaborative 3D fabrication machine designed to print concrete onto curved fabric surfaces. The system features an XY-operable extruder bowl with adjustable tilt angles, allowing precise control over material flow. Dual human operators use hand gestures to control the machine: one manages the extruder's position and drop rate, while the other adjusts the fabric's curvature and height.

The machine dynamically integrates real-time inputs from both operators and environmental changes, fostering a seamless partnership between humans and technology. This triadic collaboration enables iterative adjustments and harmonization of actions, transforming the process into an innovative exploration of design on non-planar geometries.
